What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to your website from search engines via  whats called “natural” or organic (free) search result. This is in contrast to search engine marketing (SEM) which refers to paid inclusion in search engine listings. The higher a site appears in the search results, the more visitor traffic it will get from the search engine. This gives a website what we call ‘web presence’ or ‘web visibility’ and invariably leads to an increase in demand for products and services offered by that site.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO studies the mechanisms of search engines and what people are actually searching for. Optimising a website mainly involves editing its content and code (html) to increase that websites relevance for specific keywords and to facilitate its ease of indexing by search engines.
