Why no Webcam on Apple’s new iPad?

How is it that Apple can put a webcam in something as thin as the MacBook Air, but not the latest iPad? This is a huge omission in this punter’s opinion. I suspect the addition of 3G connectivity prevented Apple from even considering a Webcam. Those revenue hungry global telecoms giants would not be happy to see people using Google video chat and Skype across 3G connections on the iPad, thereby lessening their vast profits made from captive ‘customers’ via inflated phone charges.

Apart from this glaring omission, which the market will correct in time (Step up Google!), it really does look like Jonathan Ives and the design team at Apple really have outdone themselves (again!). I want one, and thankfully as an Apple developer I can rationalise buying one…….For design and testing purposes of course.

Any thoughts?

Nice phone (largely an iPhone copy realistically!). but i’ll be sticking with my iPhone I suspect, even though the iPhone’s camera could really use a flash and its battery life is ‘breeewtal’. Would like to know what the battery life of the Nexus One is like. Anybody?

The iPhone also has the advantage of syncing with the by now ubiquitous iTunes music library, a massive plus to its user base. I’ll wager Apple’s unrivaled design team, lead by Jonathon Ives, will again blow all-comers out of the water with its next release.
